Imphal, July 25 2009:
For construction of an Irrigation Water Tank under the Minor Irrigation Department of the State Government with the stated objective of harvesting rain water for irrigation purpose, a land survey was conducted at Uthambalok Leitembi in Imphal East district today.
The land survey at Uthambalok Leitembi located under Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency was conducted at the request of the farmers after the local MLA Th Nandakishore prevailed upon the authority.
During the survey conducted in the presence of MLA Nandakishore and Executive Engineer of Minor Irrigation Department, officials of the Department carried out a detailed study on the volume of rainwater water to be collected and the size of the tank to be constructed.
Once completed the proposed Irrigation Water Tank is expected to provide irrigation facilities to agricultural lands like Leitembi Loukon, Lairembi Loukon, Kabokchaibi Loukon, Makhapat Loukon, Sanarei Loukon, Puleipokpi Loukon, Chingyapat Loukon and Khongsa Loukon which cover a total area of around 1000 hectares.
The intake point of the tank has been proposed at Uthambalok Leitembi by virtue of being the confluence of nine different streams flowing down from Nongmaiching hillock.
MLA Nandakishore assured the farmers that he would exert pressures on the authority concerned to start construction work on the proposed tank which would be 30 meter length and 28 metre in breadth at the soonest possible.
During the tour today, the MLA also visited to find out whether the River Lift Irrigation (RLI) Scheme at Top Mayai Leikai of the Assembly Constituency is being functioning properly or not.
