Imphal, August 30: The identity of the woman found dead in a suspicious manner at a place between Chanam Sandrok and Thiyam yesterday afternoon has been identified as one Luchalu Kamei (32) d/o Kamuna Kamei of Gaipuinam village near Khuman Lampak.

Since four years back, Luchalu has been staying with her parents after she divorced her husband, Thoiba of Kamong.

They have two daughters.

While the elder daughter stayed back with her father, Luchalu brought the younger one with her.

Since then, she was engaged in selling vegetables along Dingku road.

According to family members, Luchalu Kamei had an affair with one rickshaw puller for the last three months.

The rickshaw puller is identified as one Laishram Romenkumar alias Inao (20) of Thoubal Khunou, staying at present at Khoyathong in a rented room.

At about 7:30 pm of August 27, Lachalu came on a bicycle and met with Lachalu.

Since the day, she never returned home.

Even as public meeting was held today in connection with the death of Luchalu Kamei at her native village, the corpse is still lying at RIMS mortuary.

During the public meeting attended by representatives of ZSUM, KAMA and other organisations, the JAC Against the Rape and Murder of Mrs M Luchalu of Gaipuinam Village was constituted with Ph Meibon as convenor.

Speaking to reporters, the convenor informed that a memorandum urging for immediate arrest of the suspected accused, Laishram Romenkumar alias Inao of Thoubal Khunou and payment of adequate ex-gratia to the surviving daughter of the victim��Susana alias Nanao (7) will be submitted to the Chief Minister.

In case, the Government fails to fulfil the demands of the JAC within 48 hours after submission of the memorandum, the body will not be claimed and intense agitation of all sorts will be launched, Meibon said.

Meanwhile, the United People's Front while strongly condemning the murder, pledged unstinted support to any agitation that may be launched by the JAC.

Saying that the incident was a crime against all women, the All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj has also condemned the incident in the strongest term.

It warned that it will not remain silent if the culprit is not booked and punished accordingly at the earliest.
