Teenager injured in IED blast

Imphal, August 19 2014:
Even as a 17-year-old boy was injured in an IED blast at Mantripukhri, a hand grenade along with a live bullet was planted at the gate of a former special contractor's residence at Uripok today.
According to information culled from the spot, the blast was triggered near a temple at Mantripukhri Thakurbari in Imphal East district, under Heingang Police Station, in the intervening night of August 18 and 19 at around 12.30 am.
The IED, which is suspected to have planted earlier, exploded below the engine of a 407 mini truck (MN-01/8711), which was parked near the temple.
It is said that though Krishna Janmasthami celebrations were going on earlier at the temple, most devotees had returned home when the blast occured.

A 17-year-old boy, identified as Kunal Sahu s/o Sunil of Mantripukhri Thakurbari was injured in the incident.
The boy, who was hit by a splinter on his right chest, is undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity.
Apart from making a pit of around one feet in circumference, the blast damaged parts of engine and front portion of the mini truck and windows and doors of nearby houses.
Meanwhile, womenfolk of the locality and nearby areas staged a sit-in-protest against the blast at a community hall located near the temple today.
Condemning the incident, a woman protester said that no such incident occured in the past although Krishna Janmasthami celebrations have been taking place at the temple since 1972 .
Urging all concerned not to repeat such attack in future, the woman sought clarification as to why innocent civilians were targeted.
In another incident, miscreants planted a hand grenade along with a live bullet at the gate of former special contractor Soubam Birdhaja alias Bijali's residence at Uripok Achom Leikai at around 7 am today.
The grenade and bullet were wrapped in a polythene bag along with a note that asked the contractor to hand over a sum of money, which he had allegedly earned fraudulently, to Red Army P-Pro.
Even as womenfolk of the locality staged a sit-in-protest against the incident, police have recovered the grenade and bullet.
