Imphal, October 31 2009:
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has asserted that agreements have been reached on most points during the first round talks with representatives of the agitating Working Committee of the Apunba Lup.
Speaking to newspersons at the end of the 25th death anniversary of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, observed as 'National Re-dedication Day' at 1st Bn Manipur Rifles Parade ground this afternoon, the Chief Minister confided that even though differences still persist on a few points there is strong possibility that the present impasse would be solved at the earliest.
Works Minister K Ranjit, who also spoke to newspersons, disclosed that inspite of demands for resignation of O Ibobi Singh as Chief Minister of Manipur being the central point when the Apunba Lup spearheaded agitation triggered by the July 23 BT road firing, the said issue did not figure in today's meeting between the Lup representatives and the Government.
While commenting similarly as that of the CM regarding agreements being reached on most of the points, Ranjit said another round of talks would be held to find an amicable solution so as to restore normalcy in the State.
He also revealed that Apunba Lup representatives reiterated demand for sentencing seven police commando personnel, involved in the July 23 firing incident that claimed the lives of two and wounded five others.
Reminding that a judicial inquiry in connection with the BT Road firing is already underway and that everybody is bound by the law of the land, the Minister expressed that sentencing guilty personnel, if any, should be based in legal outcome and reports of relevant investigation.
