RGOK/KRA observes Reformation day

Imphal, January 16 2010: The Revolutionary Govt of Kukigam (RGOK) and its armed wing Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) observed the first Reformation Day at its general headquarters in Gamnom today.

Unfurling of the RGOK flag by its chairman M David Hangsing, gun salute to departed KRA cadres along with offering of floral tributes, presentation of cultural items and exhortation speeches marked the observance at Lhungtim Football ground.

Besides top RGOK/KRA functionaries the observance was attended by leaders of the KNF, NGO representatives, village chiefs and large number of villagers from nearby areas.

Conveying warm greetings to all section of the society on the occasion, a RGOK/KRA statement issued to newspersons who went to cover the event offered condolences to families of the departed cadres and to other revolutionary groups whose cadres laid down their lives for the cause of the Kuki people and their land.

Recounting selfless services rendered for the 'nation' that would remain indelible, the statement expressed that through observance of Reformation Day "we redefine Reformation as improvements from the existing forms or conditions of an organisation intended to make striking changes for the betterment in social, political, economic and other structures within the Kuki society".

Thanking all concerned for extending unflinching help and support in the endeavour for attaining goal of development and peaceful co-existence, the RGOK cited movement/revolution of the irish Revolutionary Army and Palestine Liberation Organisation to point out that without the people's support and participation all revolutionary movements would prove futile.

Listing redemption, safe-guarding and protection of ancestral land handed over by the Kuki forefathers as the main and ultimate goal of the RGOK, it further stated that equal importance is being accorded towards reforming socio-political, cultural and economic structures of the Kuki nation.

Conceding that the Kuki nation had been in disarray apart from being subjected to various forms of humiliation and subjugation for the last many decades, the RGOK pledged to make all out efforts to sustain and unitedly carry forward the struggle for materialisation of the Kuki Nation aspiration.

Calling upon the Government to recognise political rights of the Kukis in their struggle for self-determination which the RGOK said will not retract as enough blood had been shed for preservation and protection of the Kuki's ancestral land the Kuki Gam, the statement also lamented that owing to factionalism, disunity, clanism and nepotism 'in our society' the movement had become even more challenging and the struggle a litmus test of character.

While appealing to the people to stand unitedly so as to thwart all forms of devilish intention and defeat destructive forces, RGOK also said time has come for both introspection and retrospection by all the revolutionary groups so as to chalk out measures to uphold and strengthen the values and principles of multi-culturalism, mutual co-existence and fraternity in the land.
