Imphal, August 27 2009:
To ensure fulfilment of the public demands, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has announced further intensification of the ongoing agitation including mass civil disobedience movement.
In a statement, the Apunba Lup said until the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, public should boycott all the functions attended by him, ex-communicate his family members, all the Congress MLAs who are supporting Ibobi and MLAs of other political parties which are partners of the ruling SPF Government, the guilty police commandos and their family members.
In addition to carrying on mass sit-in-protest demonstration, rally, torch rally and court arrest in defiance of the restrictions imposed by the Government, civil disobedience movement should be started along with giving up to pay taxes of various kinds to the Government, preventing Government employees from attending to their offices and stopping movement of Government vehicles, the statement of the Lup said, adding that these agitations should be launched in phase-wise manner.
In connection with the proposed intensified agitations, the Apunba Lup has also appealed to the public to prepare for facing the action of the security personnel who may try to stop them, make arrangement for first aid treatment in case of injuries and urged the hospitals and doctors to extend every possible assistance in this regard.
The Apunba Lup further said that in addition to the demands for resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on moral ground for the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, punishment of the police commandos involved in the incident and the higher police officers who tried to cover up the truth, to stop State terrorism and unconditional release of the arrested members of Apunba Lup, now also is the right time to launch intense agitation against continued imposition of AFSPA like the one witnessed in connection with extra judicial killing of Th Manorama Devi in 2004 .
It is under the provisions of this draconian Act that the public of Manipur have been deprived of their basic right to life for the last many years, the Apunba Lup said.
Ridiculing the lone woman MLA Okram Ongbi Landhoni for her alleged silence over the Khwairamband Bazar incident although a pregnant woman had been killed right in front of her 2 years old son, the Apunba Lup said this has shown her true character as the rightful wife of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.
