Imphal, May 07 2011:
Once again a public meeting held at Nachou has resolved that people should be taken into confidence while resolving the Indo-Manipur conflict and a plebiscite should be conducted so that people can participate fully in the process.
The meeting held at Gurumayum Mandop, Nachou under the aegis of Nachou Sports Development Association further resolved to send all these resolutions to the United Nations and other international human rights organisations to facilitate resolving the conflict.
The meeting was attended by social activist Nongmaithem Sanatomba, AYLL president Laishram (O) Tamon Devi and AYLL secretary Brahmacharimayum Radharani as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the meeting, UPF general secretary Bikramjit iterated that the Indo-Manipur conflict had its roots in the alleged forced merger of Manipur into India in 1949 .
Taking strong exception to the merger, liberation movements were launched in the State since some decades back.
This was followed by heavy militarisation and imposition of draconian laws like AFSPA in the name of suppressing the liberation movement.
The conflict between the security forces and the insurgents fighting to regain the lost sovereignty of Manipur is really an Indo-Manipur conflict, Bikramjit asserted.
Any means proposed for resolving the conflict without bloodshed need to be supported by all.
Comments like the time is not suitable or no solution can be achieved made by some people without giving any reason smacked of immaturity, he alleged.
Maintaining that proposal for plebiscite made by the proscribed UNLF is a means for resolving the conflict, Bikramjit claimed that there is no means other than plebiscite.
MAPI Council president Ch Manihar too advocated plebiscite for resolving the Indo-Manipur conflict.
