Imphal, April 25 2009:
Although the Government of Manipur had proposed to the 13th Finance Commission for extending benefit of the 6th Pay Commission to its employees, it had not mentioned the exact number of the employees and the sanctioned posts.
Consequently, the Finance Commission has demanded to know the number of the sanctioned posts and has sought a detailed report on the exact number of employees working under the Government of Manipur, according to sources in the State Finance informed.
Acting on the directive of the Finance Commission, the State Finance Department had also communicated to all the heads of departments for submitting reports in this regard and so all the departments which have completed preparation of their respective MGELs (Manipur Government Employees' List) have forwarded their reports, the source disclosed.
It may be noted here that among the Government Departments, Education, Medical and Revenue Departments have not completed preparation of MGELs.
Information received from the Education Department maintained that rationalisation process being taken up by the Government in the Department has created difficulties in completing preparation of MGEL.
According to another source, the Finance Department has issued an order directing not to release salary of the employees related to those departments who have not yet completed preparation of MGEL with effect from April.
