With no sign of improvement in his condition, RIMS Hospital has referred Golmei Mangal to AIIMS, New Delhi for further treatment.
Authorities of RIMS issued the discharge certificate of Golmei today.
He is expected to leave Imphal for New Delhi on September 21
A Grade-IV employee in the Taxation Department, Golmei was among the five victims who were injured in the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident of police firing that also left two persons, including a pregnant woman, dead.
Golmei sustained bullet injuries on his left hand and has been undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital for about two months now.
Talking to mediapersons at cabin no.I of the Orthopaedics ward of the Hospital today, Golmei said as there has been no sign of improvement in his condition, the attending doctors have referred him to AIIMS for further treatment and the discharge certificate was handed over today.
He further informed that so far around Rs 1.30 lakhs have been spent on his treatment and three operations conducted.
Yet there is no improvement in his condition.
Till date, no financial assistance have been received for his treatment from the side of the State Government, Golmei added.
Poukin Golmei, wife of Golmei Mangal, said that with the meagre salary not enough to meet the needs of the family, her husband has been trying to supplement the income through agricultural works.
In all eight persons including his elderly parents are dependent on Golmei.
But after the unfortunate incident and his subsequent treatment at RIMS for over 2 months now by using whatever resources available, the financial constraints on the family has increased so much so that even the three children who are studying outside have gave up their studies and returned home.
She further informed that even for taking her husband to AIIMS for further treatment, the only two Sangam of paddy field that the family owned has to be sold off.
"All these are being done so that my husband does not face the grim prospect of amputating his left arm and lead the rest of his life as a physically handicapped person", Poukin Golmei added.
Expressing strong resentment against the negligence attitude of the Government towards her husband, she also appealed to all the armed personnel to restrain from opening fire in public places in future.
Representatives of Ruangmei Lu Phuam, who were also present at the occasion also decried the apathetic attitude of the Government which has not provided any financial assistance to Golmei.
