Imphal, June 19 2009: Thirty six year-old widow, Seram ongbi Laishram ningol Ashalata who has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of the special contractor, Y Krishnadas has been taken remanded further in police custody by the court where she was produced by the police today till June 22 again.

Ashalata of Sagolband Sayang Konthoujam was arrested by the Imphal west police for allegedly for receiving Rs 25 lakh from the family of the contractor for onward handing over to the abductors on the next day of killing the contractor and has been in the judicial custody.

She was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Imphal covering her face.

In the court she admitted that she was involved in taking the ransom.

But, police prayed for further remand in their custody till June 23 for further interrogation into the case.

Hearing the prayer of the police, the court remanded her till June 22 .

As per the report table in the court by the IO of the case, Ashalate was picked by the police on June 11 at around 4.30 pm in connection with the contractor murder case.

The IO referring to the statement given by the woman said that she took Rs 25 lakh from the family of Krishnadas as per instruction from under trial prisoner Nando over phone.

The IO further said that as told by Ashalata, the money she had received from the family of the Krishnadas has been further handed over to two men who were sent by Nando at her home on the evening of the same day.

The two men came on a two wheeler.

Even though police doubt of Ashalata knowing the identities of the two persons, she is yet to disclose the name of the two persons.

To establish the identities of the two persons, police need further interrogation to the woman, the IO put down to the court.
