A surrendered UNLF cadre but now working as a Rifleman in 4th IRB was shot dead by unidentified armed persons right in front of his own mother this evening.
According to police report, Rifleman Pebam Bikramjit (28) s/o Nongyai of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai was cooking in the kitchen of his house when two unidentified gunmen barged in and shot him dead right in front of his own mother at around 6.50 pm today.
There were two fatal bullet marks on his head and left armpit.
A former UNLF cadre, Bikramjit surrendered to the police along with one AK series rifle in 1999.Five years back, he joined service in 4th IRB as a Rifleman.
Subsequently, he married and was the father of two daughters.
According to information received from the family members, Bikramjit, who occasionally returns home from his post, was cooking in the kitchen at around 6.50 pm today along with his mother who was helping him while his younger brother Amu Singh was playing along with his two daughters when the two unidentified armed youths along an elderly local woman identified as Akashini Devi showed up.
Not suspecting anything, Akashini came along with the two youths as they requested her to lead to the house of Bikramjit for they want to inquire about the welbeing of Bikramjit who was said to be ill.
After killing Bikramjit, the two youths fled immediately from the scene of the crime.
They also reportedly opened some rounds of blank firing near the gate of the house.
On hearing the report, SDPO Singjamei and his police team came to inspect the spot of the crime, and trace the killers.
Meanwhile, Singjamei police has registered a case and the body deposited at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
