Imphal, November 10 2009: All Tribal Disables' Union, Manipur (ATDUM) has threatened to call 96-hour chakka-bandh in the five hill districts of the state beginning from midnight of November 23 if the government fails to fulfill the demands of the ATDUM including reservation for the disables in the recruitment of 3,453 teachers under the Autonomous District Council by November 22 .

Speaking to reporters at its office premises located at Chingmeirong today, ATDUM President, Momo Tantanga said the ATDUM has urged the government to issue a notification with immediate effect for 3% reservation for disables in the recruitment of primary teachers under ADC.

It also urged the government to relax 10 years for the disabled candidates, to extend the date of submission of application forms for the disables, and to select candidates who have the knowledge of local dialects.

Momo alleged that the government had conducted the written exam for the recruitment of teachers on October 11 by ignoring the demands of the ATDUM.

He decried that the authority concerned had ignored the demands of the ATDUM and provided relaxation of 8 years for ST/SC/OBC candidates.

He also decried the government's failure to create separate section for the disables in conducting the written examinations.

Though the authority concerned including Principal Secretary (Hills) has been petitioned to redress the grievances but it no action has been taken so far.

ATDUM president, Momo Tantanga further said that if the government fails to fulfill the demands by November 22, ATDUM will impose 96-hour chakka-bandh in the entire hill districts of the state beginning from midnight of November 23 .

He appealed all concerned to extend support to the agitation launched by the ATDUM.

He further said that medical, electricity, water supply and media services will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
