Manipur chief minister O Ibobi today said that police is investigating into the recent case of the hijacking life saving drug worth Rs 70 lakh by suspected underground from a place located between Senapati and Kangpokpi on NH-39 and will take up appropriate action if any of the militants outfit included in the Suspension of Operation (SoO) involved.
Police is investigating into the case after taken up a sou-motto case with the Senapati police station, said the chief minister in the House of the state assembly in reply to a call attention motion moved by opposition member Dr Ng Bijoy of MPP.
Moving the call attention motion, opposition member, Dr.Ng Bijoy of MPP drew the attention of the state home minister on what action had taken up in regard to the hijacking of the life saving drugs on the NH-39 on May 30 last by the suspected KRA militants, a group among the Kuki militants signing Suspension of Operation.
He also wanted to know involvement of any of the Kuki militant outfits enjoying suspension of operation with the security forces in the hijacking expressing concern over the increasing activities of the extortion activities of the militants on the highways passing through the state and wanted to know government action to check such unwanted incidents.
Dr Bijoy also wanted to know whether KRA, one of the Kuki militant outfits included in the SoO agreement involved in the hijacking drama.
And also what step has been taken up by the government to check to allow save passage of the life saving drugs in the state through the highways.
Ibobi said following a complaint lodged by the transport agency Reliable Cargo Movers (RCM), police has registered a case and investigation is on to find and if any of the militant outfits maintaining suspension of operation found involved in the hijacking, appropriate action will be taken up against then.
Giving reply to the motion, chief minister, O Ibobi Singh who is also looking after the home portfolio said that government has the report on time with the received of the complaint of the transport agency and police is investigating into the case.
If any of the outfits within the SoO happen to be involved in the case, government will not spare them, action will be taken up against them, Ibobi assured the house.
He, however, did not disclosed further details of the investigation report stating that as investigation is in progress it is not the right time to disclose the finding of the report.
Life saving drugs worth about Rs 70 lakh had been offloaded forcibly by some unidentified persons who claimed themselves to be activists of KRA in connection with monetary demand from a truck ferrying the drugs and beat up the truckers on May 30 this year.
The matte came to light only when the transport agency, Reliable Cargo Movers (RCM) lodged complaint with the Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) later on June 18 last.
