6th Death Anniv of Akaba observed

Imphal, January 24 2013: The 6th Death Anniversary of Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba was observed at the Luchingpurel Chngsubam Akaba Memorial Complex located atop Leima Ching of Wakha along the range of Nongmaiching hill today.

The observance function which was organized jointly by Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup and Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) was attended by Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir and Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of MOBC Amin Shah as Chief Guest and President respectively.

On the occasion, Irom Nilakamal of Kamong, Nambol and HB Thumthup Anal of Chandel Riverline were conferred Chingsubam Akaba Ningshing Mana for the year 2013, in recognition of their exceptional roles and contribution towards the cause for promotion of Sanamahism, Manipuri culture, tradition and language.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each and a certificate.

A rest house donated by Pheiroijam Rajendro, Deputy Director of Agriculture Department in the name of late Chingsubam Akaba was inaugurated by Minister Md Abdul Nasir to mark the occasion.

Floral tributes were also offered to the statue of Chingsubam Akaba and a two minutes silence was observed to pay homage to the departed soul of the Luchingpurel.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Md Abdul Nasir informed that a model seed village would be seen coming up very soon in Leima Ching of Wakha, where the final resting place of Chingsubam Akaba is located.

He further stated that the qualities and worth of good people are seldom recognized during their lifetime.

It only comes to be known and appreciated after their death.

Many great personalities of the country have been killed by armed miscreants.

Among them was Chingsubam Akaba, who strived to save the cultural identities of various ethnic communities as well as to bring about unity among all the people living in both the hills and the plain areas.

The Minister observed that the present generation should follow the footsteps of Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba and try to fulfill his dreams.

"We should emulate the ideologies of the late leader who did not distinguish among people of different caste and creed, but considered everyone equally as one", the Minister exhorted.

Delivering the Presidential speech, Amin Shah, Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of MOBC, announced that a community hall wherein people from all walks of life and different communities can come together and use would be constructed at Wakha Ching.

The approach road to Wakha Ching would also be black-topped and the concerned authority has been directed to do the same in this regard.

Furthermore, he informed the gathering that setting up of a tourist spot at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crores has also been approved.

N Tomba, Advisor of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association; H Nabachandra, Secretary of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur; RV Minthing, former Minister; Wangkheimayum Rajen, Director of Settlement and Land Records; Pheiroijam Rajendra, Deputy Director of Agriculture Department and Moirangthem Naokhamba, Convener of 6th Death Anniversary Commemoration Organising Committee were also present among others as Guests of Honour of the function.
