Demanding justice in the Khwairamband Market killing of July 23 and urging for a peaceful atmosphere, conducive to proper education, a group of students tried to storm the gate of the Raj Bhawan today.
Chanting slogans like, "Let students study in peace", "Punish police commandos involved in the Khwairamband killing" etc, the students marched up to the gate of the Raj Bhawan.
Security personnel manning the Raj Bhavan gate baton charged the students and drove them away.
However, three representatives of the students were allowed to meet the Governor.
The students then submitted a memorandum to the Governor.
The primary point listed in the memorandum was intervention of the Governor in the continuing people's movement against the Khwairamband killing and to ensure that justice is delivered.
Other demands highlighted in the memorandum included punishment of the commandos involved in the twin killing, enabling students to pursue their education in a secure atmosphere and ensuring peace in the society in accordance with the principles of democracy.
Later, speaking to media persons, the students who met the Governor conveyed that the Governor assured them to utilize all the power at his disposal to deliver justice to the people.
The Governor also reportedly assured that he would try his best to persuade the Government to lift the continuing curfew.
Lamenting that the other wise continuous process of education has been disrupted for about a month since the Khwairamband killing, the students decried the harsh treatment meted out to by security forces at Raj Bhavan gate.
Because of the student's demonstration, there was a traffic jam in front of the Raj Bhavan for sometime.
