Satyaam shines in HSE 2009 exams

Imphal, May 15 2009: Snapping previous trend of their female counterparts occupying the top spots in Higher Secondary school examinations, Satyaam Takhellambam of human Resource Development Academy, Ghari scored 469 marks to become topper of the Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) 2009 as six other boys finished in the top five slot of the Examination that produced the highest pass percentage of 67.54 so far in the history of the Council's examination.

Born to T Sunita Devi and T Bhupendrakumar of Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Imphal East district, Satyaam not only made his parents proud but also leveraged his institution (HRD) to the top with a total of 469 marks including letter marks in English, Alternative English, Physics, Chemistry, mathematics and Biology subjects.

Result of the examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur was declared this evening.

Out of a total of 18,182 candidates who appeared in the said examination, 12,280 emerged successful which included 3223 candidates in first division, 7236 in the second division and 1089 in the third division.

Moreover 57 candidates secured star marks out of whom only one achieved the distinction from among 5072 that appeared in the arts stream.

The pass percentage of the HSE 2009 is the highest so far as the previous percentage was 65.70 and the HSE 2007 result had success rate of 56.66 percent.

In the past five Council examinations, the year 2005 marked the least number of successful candidates at 35.79 which was slightly improved to 41.25 in the next examination.

The second top position has been shared by Sanasam Kishan Singh of Somorendra Sana Royal Higher Secondary School, thoubal and Pukrambam Suraj Singh of Herbert School, changangei with both securing 447 marks which includes letter marks in English, Alternative English, Physics, Chemistry and mathematics.

With identical scores of 443 marks three students occupied the third position with Chabungbam Smilie of HRD, Ghari the only girl student to prevent clean sweep of the top five positions by the boys.

Smilie along with her school-mate siddhartha Khuraijam scored letters marks in the English, Alternative English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology subjects, with the other third position holder Konthoujam Priyananda Singh of standard Robarth Hr Sec School culling top marks in English, manipuri, Physics, Chemistry, mathematics and Biology.

Rohan Laishram of herbert School, Changangei and his school-mate Phougeishangbam Rolish Singh occupied the fourth and fifth position with 439 and 435 marks respectively while Satkhogin Kilong s/o Laikhoneng Kilong of Sielmat Christian Hr Sec School, Churachandpur is the only tribal student to finish among the top 10 rankers.

Among educational institutions Herbert School outshone others with seven of its students finishing in the top ten bracket.

Meikam Ibungo of Herbert School, who ranked 8th in the overall performance, along with H Thangchinlun of Rayburn College, Churachandpur had the distinction of being the only students to cull maximum marks in a single subject at 98 each with Ibungo achieving the highest score in Mathematics and Thangchinlun emulating the feat in Paite (MIL).

Out of the total of 18,409 candidates who initially enrolled for the examination but only 18,182 appeared the HSE 2009 also witnessed expulsion of 12 male and nine female candidates.

Among commerce candidates in the same examination, shree Digambar jain Mahavir Hr Sec School's Maisnam Shinapal d/o M Gopal Singh and Tombi devi of Sagolband Wahengbam Leikai finished on top with a total of 377 marks including letter marks in Alternative English and Accountancy.

While Babli Sharma of Rayburn College culled maximum of 375 marks for the second position finish, Paojahao Haokip of Don Bosco Hr Sec School, Maram and Megha Jain of shree Digambar Jain Mahavir Hr Sec School shared the third place honour each scoring 364 marks.

Somshri Patni of Shree Digambar and Lucy Vunglunpar of Rayburn College respectively secured the fourth and fifth positions.

In the Arts stream, Nongthombam Gunibani Devi of Enlighten Knowledge Hr Sec School, Shangakpham, who is the daughter of N Kamala Devi and N Khomei Singh of Kontha Ahallup emerged as the brightest student with a total of 419 marks including letter marks in English, Alternative English, Home Science, Geography and Political Science subjects.

Khundrakpam Nilita Devi of TG Hr Sec School achieved letter marks in English, Alternative English and Home science to occupy the second position with a tally of 399 as Deepala Chanu Sanasam also of TG hr Sec School ranked third on 383 marks.

for the fourth place Yambem Bishwonath Singh of CC Hr Sec School scored a grand total of 384 marks while the fifth position has been secured by Man biak hoih of Rayburn College, Churachandpur who netted 382 marks.

Inclusive of shared-position holders, the top 20 slot in the Arts stream were occupied by 19 students belonging to scheduled tribes.

In terms of district-wise success rate of schools whose candidates appeared in the said examination, Chandel fared the best at 92.21 percent whereas performances of candidates from Bishnupur district schools has been least enviable as only 36.33 percentage of the candidates scaled the academic test.

Candidates from Senapati and Thoubal districts also fared reasonably well as 85.43 and 82.45 pass percentage were respectively recorded in the examination.

apart from individual brilliance, collective effort of candidates from Herbert School recorded 99.95 percent success rate while Chil Chil Asian Mission School (Kanglatongbi), Don Bosco hr Sec School (maram) and Heirok Higher Secondary School fared the best as all the candidates of the latter trio emerged successful.

While candidates of respective institutions strived for the best, effort of candidates of 10 educational institutions was not good enough as the pass percentage was nil.
