Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat today had a 45 minute-long confabulation with the state Chief Minister, O Ibobi about the prevailing situation as regards inability of schools and colleges in Imphal districts to resume class due to the boycott agitation launched by three students bodies and also burning of some educational institutions here and there in the valley districts.
Reliable sources said, during the confabulation which started from 11.30 am today at the Raj Bhavan here, the Governor advised the Chief Minister to take up all possible measures so that the students should not lose their academic year.
The source further said that today's meeting was specifically called by the Governor to take stock of the post July 23-incident situation prevailing in the state, and also to bring a solution to the three and half months-old agitation as soon as possible.
The source further said that the Governor wanted to know from the Chief Minister what steps the government was taking to end the class boycott agitation called by three students organisations.
The Chief Minister is reported to have informed the Governor of the talks that the government had with representatives of the Apunba Lup recently, and the efforts being made by the government to have further talks with the agitators.
The Chief Minister is also reported to have informed the Governor of the security measures being adopted by the government to prevent anti social elements from setting fire to educational institutions.
It is learnt that the Governor expressed serious concerns over the plight of the students who have been deprived of their rights to education for such a long period of time due to the agitation, and also the troubles and fears the private schools were facing.
