Imphal, March 10 2009: At least seven activists of different underground organizations including a woman have been apprehended by the police commandos today in joint operations with the security forces.

Imphal east police commandos apprehended a woman KCP(MC) cadre name, Yumkhaibam Sanabi (43) wife of late Thokchom Joykumar of Heingang Maibam Leikai involved in the extortion of money from the general public, government officials, contractors, etc.

He joined the group in the month of January this year and working under the command of one M Wanglen Khuman, a statement of the Imphal east SP, Th Radheshyam said.

A statement of the SP, Imphal west, L Kailun said that the activists were nabbed from Uripok Yambem Leikai and lilong Chajing Meetei Lamkhai.

Two of the nabbed activists were KYKL and nabbed by a combined force of Imphal west police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Li from Uripok Yambem Leikai.

They were Mutum Dinesh @ Inbungo (26) son of M Rabei of Yairipok Nongbrang Leikai and Sagolshem Atoy alias Lukhoibi (25) son of late Kunjeshwor of Yairipok Angtha Mamang Leikai.

They were members of the finance section of the outfit and seized two mobile handsets with SIM cards no.9615101088 and 9615217319 from them, the statement added.

Two more KYKL cadres were also apprehended this evening at around 5.30 pm by the Imphal west police commandos from Meetei Lamkhai, Lilong Chajing allegedly engaged in extortion of money from general public.

An Activa Honda bearing registration no.MN-03S-1197 and a mobile handset (Motorola brand) with SIM card also seized from the nabbed activists name as Loitongbam Dayananda alias Chabi (31) son of Krishnamohon of Thoubal Ningombam and Ningthoujam Dinesh (33) son of N Indra of Thanga Lawai presently residing at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi.

One UNLF cadre named Leishangthem Nanao alias Surchandra (36) son of L Udoy of Tera Sapam Leirak (army no.2186) was also nabbed by a team of Imphal west police commandos from Tera Bazar.

Police came to know that he joined the outfit in December 2007 through one Bokko and obtained basic military traninig in Burma Kabo.

Another PREPAK cadre was also apprehended by the same Imphal west police commando team from Kangchup Chingkhong today at around 12.30 pm.

He was identified as Langoljam Shamjai alias Ibungo Khaba (41) son of L Kala of Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai.
