Imphal, September 12, 2009: The 24-hour statewide bandh called in protest against the killing of a driver by the security force in alleged fake encounter came to standstill today.

No untoward incident reported during the bandh hour except strike supporters blocking road at various part of the state.

The JAC today announced that they will launch other intensified forms of agitations with the supports of the people and other civil organizations in a meet with the reporters at Hatta Golapati this evening.

The bandh has been called by a local JAC formed in connection with the killing of Md Rehman by the security force on September 8 night.

He was among the six persons killed on that night by the security forces which controversy arose after two of them were identified as drivers and two mobile phone re-charge couple.

The JAC is demanding booking of the security forces involved in the killing of the driver and adequate compensation to the family of the victim as well as government initiative for the fuure life of the two minor sons of the deceased driver and his spouse.

In connection with the killing of the Tata Sumo driver Md Majibur Rehman of Loktak Project currently resided at a rented house at Hatta Golapati, Imphal, the service of the Tata Sumo along the Imphal-Moreh section of the NH-39 is also suspending for the last three days demanding justice in the killing.

The strike commenced from last midnight affected to the normal works of life across the state as inter-district buses and city bus services including taxi services were off the road.

In Imphal, most of the business establishments, shops and educational institutions were closed and only few private vehicles plied on the streets.

Strike supporters took to the streets at many places in Imphal and blocked the road even thought police dispersed them again and again.

Meanwhile, members of the JAC re-affirmed that they will continue agitations against the killing till the demands put forward to the government are fulfill speaking to the media persons at a press conference held at Hatta Golapati.

However, the dead body of the Rehman will be received by the family for performing the last rite tomorrow, convener of the JAC, Haji Arafat Ali said.

He said, the decision to take back the dead body was taken by the JAC owned and no understanding arrived with the government regarding the matter.
