Imphal, September 10, 2010: State Governor, Gurbachand Jagat, today asserted on the role of educational institutions in building a nation, addressing on the occasion of presentation of Governor's Award and RK Sanatombi Devi Awards.

"A nation is built in its educational institutions.

We should train our youths in these institutions.

It is the educational institutions that we should develop the individual character and also felling of social purpose," the Governor who graced the function as chief guest said.

An educational institution must give the inspiration needed to ignite the minds of the youth.

The hidden human feelings, the common search for peace and cooperative living are far better and more important than publicized ambitions, he opined.

It is for the educational institutions to prepare the youth by taming the base instincts of mankind, like anarchical ambitions, spiritual blindness, recalcitrance, which are grave internal obstacles.

It would be wrong to settle this spirit by authoritative decision and force, forgetting that justice is more important than armaments and the maintenance of peace by threat and horror is repugnant to the moral sense of mankind, he asserted.

He also talked on the main function of higher educational institutions as a centre for promotion of a world of loyalties, a sense of moral values and faith in human spirit and ideas.

Expressing appreciation to Padmashree Th Hairdas and his associates in the management of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, the chief guest said that they have contributed a valuable service to Manipuri society, particularly in the field of education.

"I cannot but appreciate that the Vidyalaya has been giving the Governor's Award to its best student every year with a view to encouraging its scholars, besides a number of other awards given to slected persons in different trades/professions as an indication of social harmony and peaceful living which will ultimately lead to an all-round development in the state," Gurbachan said.

He also expressed hope that the management and teachers of the RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya will march ahead towards the fulfillment of their aims and objectives and that its students would surge to a bright future.

He was also aware that education at college and higher secondary level is of utmost importance in a student's life asserting that it is the turning point of his search for a career, suited to his ability and aptitude.

A challenging task is ahead of today's students as future citizens and pillars of the nation, he said adding that with increasing globalization and better communication and technology, the world is going to become a very competitive place and only those who are better equipped with specialized knowledge and skills and with the drive will be able to cope with it to succeed.
