Lamka, October 02 2009:
Celebrating the 140th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in tandem with the entire country, Churachandpur today under the aegis of the district administration observed 'Cleanliness Day.' Public servants in their respective offices, students and staff in their own schools and NREGA labourers along the streets and ADCC staff on the township's highly contaminated dustbins report since early in the day to give their surrounding a fresh look.
The brain behind the exercise, Jacintha Lazarus, DC Churachandpur had personally instructed all Government departments under her jurisdiction to mark the day in its true form.
More than thirty schools and colleges under ZEO Churachandpur were also allotted a banner each with an instruction that they should be return with signatures of students participating in the exercise.
Major roads and by-lanes within the township as well wore a newly trim look, with village chiefs and authorities taking the initiative under the centre's flagship programme NREGA.
Today's exercise involving the NREGA labourers here took an interesting association with the scheme as it coincides with the centre government announcing that the scheme will be named after the Father of the Nation.
Except for the Autonomous District Council, who even after repeated instructions fails to clear-up the stuffed garbage in some of the dustbins, a team of the district administration that visited most of the localities within the township appears content with the exercise.
