Imphal, December 24: Villagers of Top Khunou have unanimously resolved to oppose construction of a school by Mega Manipur Society at Yaral Loukon under Top Dussara, and have asked for stopping the ongoing construction works.

Informing this in a statement today, publicity in-charge of Top Khunou Naharol Seva Marup L Open Singh said that the decision to oppose set up of the school has been taken in view of the arrogance attitude of the Mega Manipur Society in going ahead with the construction work despite a stay order of the Gauhati High Court.

The site for construction of the proposed school comprising of reserved and patta land has been allotted to the Society without giving any notification to the genuine pattadars.

Despite a High Court order staying the land allotment order, the Society went ahead with the construction work, without understanding the sentiments of the affected villagers, the statement said, decrying the arrogant attitude of the Society.

The statement pointed out that the land area in question has been an source of livelihood for many villagers who sustain on agricultural activities and all these matters have been spelled out clearing during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club sometime back.

The ongoing construction work has also led to cutting down of the hill located nearby from where the villagers used to collect firewood and feeling up of the pond dug up by the Government for the purpose of rearing fishes by the villagers spending thousands of money through Manipur Development Society.

Moreover, the route of the only approach road of the village too has been change by the Society for its own convenience, publicity-charge of the Marup rued in the statement.
