Imphal, September 29 2009: Continuing the tirade against the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led SPF Government over the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang, however, has disclosed that out of the four elected MLAs of the party, two of them have not responded to invitations for participation in Wakat Meepham or discussion of other public issues.

Participating in a day-long discussion session on the issues confronting the public including the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar incident at Luwangshangbam today, Dr Luwang informed that the request to send their workers too have been turned down by the two MLAs.

When the general secretary of the party was despatched to call them for participation in the meeting, the MLAs even cautioned him of detention under NSA, the party president added.

Continuing the tirade against the Ibobi Singh-led SPF Government over the July 23 Khwairamband incident, Dr Luwang charged that instead of taking care of the welfare of the people and protection of their lives and properties, the Government has turned against the people and terrorised the State.

In such a situation, the public are bound to suffer all the more, if Ibobi is not removed from his post, Dr Luwang said, adding that people living in both the hill and the valley have started showing their resentment against the dictatorial rule of the Ibobi Singh led SPF Government.

Alleging that most of the candidates selected in the DPC results for recruitment of police constables are from Thoubal district, Dr Luwang observed that this is a clear indication of lack of transparency in the Government.

Saying that it has been heard that gun licenses are being issued to people of Thoubal and Khangabok without any valid reasons, Dr Luwang further alleged it is this gun culture promoted by the Chief Minister, which emboldened some people to go the offices of media houses to threaten.

This is also another manifestion of the terrorism being perpetrated by the Government in the State today, he added.

In consideration of the present style of functioning of the Government and the deteriorating law and order, MPP supports the demand of the Apunba Lup for resignation of Ibobi from the post of Chief Minister and and is hence taking part in the ongoing agitation.

There can be a change for the better in the governance only when Ibobi is removed from the post of Chief Minister, Dr Luwang reiterated.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba, who also participated in the discussion session, pointed out that Armed Forces Special Powers Act was imposed in Manipur at the time of Congress rule.

So the present Congress led Government has not taken notice of the hunger relay strike of the public over the continued imposition of the Act.

The fate of the Government, which has failed to listen to the voice of the people, would be decided in the upcoming by-election to the Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, Chaoba said.

Many party leaders also spoke at the discussion session expressing their dissatisfaction over the present Government.

The day-long discussion session was organised under the aegis of Heingang Kendra MPP.
