Imphal, October 16 2009:
While deliberating on various issues relating to the ongoing indefinite class boycott campaign launched by three student bodies, a meeting of the Committee comprising representatives of senior citizens, education department officials, teachers' association, guardian organisation, private schools, etc held here today has called upon the agitating students to come forward with their written demands and urged the Government to create a conducive environment for entering into a dialogue with the agitating students immediately.
The meeting held at Mahavir Jain Digambar High School with senior citizen N Binoy Singh in the chair resolved to offer the service of the Committee in facilitating dialogue/negotiation with the Government in consideration of the fact that the Committee members have been historically associated with students and their welfare.
In this regard, the Committee, in supersession of the earlier resolution adopted on October 5, 2009, decided to entrust the task of engaging functionaries of the agitating student bodies to facilitate talks with the appropriate authorities to three of its members namely secretary of FECTA Ch Rita Devi, president of AMGOCTA H Rajendra and secretary of AMGHSLWA M Joykumar.
Taking serious note of the fact that the minimum number of teaching days prescribed for class I to X is 160 days and 180 days for class XII and above, the meeting felt that delay in resumption of classes will make it extremely difficult to meet the said mandatory requirement of minimum number of teaching says, thus resulting in non-qualification for appearing in the annual examinations.
While acknowledging the sustained contributions made by AMSU, MSF and KSA in bringing about quality education in the State by making 'education a free zone' and launching 'Eikhoi Ningthina Lairik Tamsi' campaign etc, the meeting also called upon all the students to start attending schools early and urged the student organisations to facilitate early resumption of normal academic activities.
Director of Education (S) M Harekrishna, Additional Director of Higher Education RK Chaoba Singh, general secretary of AMLWA M Joykumar, secretary of FECTA Ch Rita Devi, Th Ibopishak of AMSTA, general secretary of Private School Association Kh Japan Singh, principal of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy T Pramodini Devi, principal of EK Higher Secondary School and member of All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation P Saratchandra Singh, principal of DM College of Arts Kh Ibocha Singh, representative of AMESTA A Kalyani and president of AMGOCTA A Rajendra Singh were among those who attended the meeting.
