Wake up baby! Wake up!
Monoranjan Thakur *
Some nights she sneaks in to my room,
she loves my radio on old Portuguese radiogram!
She never stops screaming, playing and laughing,
it's part of her childhood which will always be !
Sometimes I have to travel back in time because of her,
Skirting the obstacles, in order to love my daughter!
Some of my fondest memories are of my daughter,
Kneeling down every night with her near praying alter !
I would always get very close to her as she prayed,
I would put my ear as close as I could to her mouth with close eyelid!
try my best to hear what she was saying to God,
To my amazement she prays for a peaceful world!
in the surrounding devastation and fear,
she is worried for her father and fragile mother!
War plane fired on the house next door,
Made my daughter silent in prayer!
The catastrophe has made me heartbroken,
Long to listen once to your words spoken!
It was meant to be a quiet, dignified goodbye dear,
With a last kiss for my toddler daughter!
Unable to let go of her little cold and still body,
I weep, as I stroke her head so soft and hairy!
My words and embrace always woken up her gently,
Her eyes always fluttered open smilingly!
I am devastated badly; I don't want to wake up lonely!
I scream out "Wake up, baby! wake up brightly"!
