Utopian Kangleipak (Where My Lady Can Walk Safely At Midnight)

Eroz Laishram *

Human beings never let themselves enjoy the beauty of nature and embrace peace. Autocratic nature can be observed in humans all around the globe Kangleipak is no exception. Recently I came upon an article of a khap panchayat in North India ordering the girls of its village to stop using mobile phones and stop wearing jeans. They say it encourages crimes in the village and their order or the diktat as they call it, is the solution to crimes like gang rapes.

The sound of my laughter was distorting the acoustic of my rented shabby room. And then, I realized I was laughing at myself only. Who was I kidding? I was laughing at the kind of nonsense, people's mind are filled with and their autocratic behaviour but what I failed to realize was that I belong to such a society and that my home state is no better than the north Indian village.

I'm no intellect who can write well in an intellectual manner using wise words, but I will write down what I feel in my own simple way. Now let's talk about us, the people of Kangleipak. With the failure of the state to protect and guard us, civil organisations have been the guardians of our society. Their contribution is enormous and without them the war like situation in Kangleipak might have been even worse than what we are observing today.

But with the emergence of many corruptive organisations who think they are the law, the hard work of many praiseworthy organisations, their sacrifices have been over shadowed. Autocratic behaviour comes in many forms in our Kangleipak especially from this kind of thugs like organisations and individuals. Some wants us to follow this, some wants us to follow that, do this do that and so on. The rain of orders that falls on us never ends. Rationalization will take place to justify their autocratic behaviour.

And in order to prove that they mean business, violent forces will be showcased which will be through gunshots, bombs or an uncontrollable destructive mob . All form of unwanted human behaviours like autocracy, projection, rationalization, denial, regression, displacement, reaction formation etc have found their shelter at our Kangleipak. Ethnic conflicts, bans, bandhs, blockades, murders, rapes, fake encounters become the order of the day. Aren't you tired of 'em all? I know I'm.

Why are we all just interested in creating ethnic conflicts, banning this banning that, don't drink this don't drink that, don't wear this don't wear that , give me this give me that, don't do this don't do that kind of stuffs? Why? Haven't we had enough of this muscle shows? After sustaining a civilization for nearly 2000 years, haven't we learnt the meaning of peaceful existence?

Concerned organisations, people, individuals have you got what you had set out to achieve for? If not, then where have you gone wrong? Isn't the time right for you to admit that your policies and behaviour is not helping anyone at all? Isn't it time to review your actions? Have all your political ambitions based on ethnic lines, your bans, your bandhs & blockades, your excessive show of power failed to deliver what you have hoped for?

We all know your bullying using half witted muscles, guns and mercenaries have failed to get you your goal. We also haven't ruled out the possibility that all your actions might be just a projection to deny your mindset, unwanted traits, your own inadequacies and behaviour. And thus, you might have found it necessary to rationalize your actions in the name of better functioning of our society.

Please don't ban or object things just because you don't like them. Just because a grain of rice is bad doesn't mean the whole bag of rice is bad. Please don't assume that anyone who drinks, who wears miniskirts, who holds hands, who make love, who loves western music (few organisations were even trying to ban western music concerts recently) exhibits bad behaviour/immorality.

Just because a girl wears a mini skirt and goes around with his boyfriend in his bike doesn't mean she's a slut. Just because one loves drinking doesn't mean you have the power to thrash him/her up. Just because one makes love doesn't mean they are indulging in an immoral act. Just because a guy has a slim built doesn't mean he's a drug user.

Just because some individuals have grudges against other ethnic groups doesn't mean we all have grudges. Just because you're a policeman doesn't mean you can bully anyone, remember you're here to protect the people. Instead of smuggling drugs and bullying people, try to live a life of dignity. People are taking laws into their hands, because you have failed to protect us.

Enough of the moral policing on the people of Kangleipak by certain organisations. If you don't like drinking, then don't drink it. If you want people to know that drinking is bad, then educate them and stop using force. You don't have the rights to destroy someone's house just because one from the family committed a crime. Just because you say 'eeramdamgi yaifanabagi damak' doesn't mean you're a patriot and justify your actions.

We all love our Kangleipak. We have never forgotten the seven years under Burmese rule. We have never forgotten the day our puya was burnt by the order of our half witted king under the influence of Shantidas goshai. We have never forgotten the martyrs who died in the hands of the British rule. We have never forgotten the day our Pakhangba flag was raised in kangla when we got independence from the British. We have never forgotten the day we became a part of India under the controversial merger agreement.

We cried with tears of joy when Mary kom got Bronze medal at the Olympics, when our young innocent kids won the Manchester united cup in goa. Please try to understand that our love for our motherland will remain as long as we breathe and we are the proud children of our soil. So stop justifying your barbaric acts through 'eeramdamgi yaifanabagi damak' drama. Stop making us live each day under the constant fear of torture and death from all directions because we cannot go on living like this anymore. Enough is Enough.

Winning the heart of the people is the key to achieving any organisation's objective including the police as well. How long can fear be used as a weapon? Even a small animal like the cat will become very aggressive if you corner it. You have to ultimately win the love of the people if you want to achieve your goals (if your goal is genuine and not that of a corruptive nature).

We all hope to live in a Kangleipak free of violence where political ambitions based on ethnic lines are absent, where all of us can live together in peace- drinking our favourite rice wine or the yoo with our loved ones and that includes our wives, where men treat women as equals, where womenfolk can walk without fear at midnight, where there are no bans, bandhs & blockades, where the Great flag of pakhangba can be hoisted proudly.

We wish you all to win the heart of the people. May all our dreams come true and be united in a glorious Kangleipak. Till then, naada yektaba oibiyu echil enao saa.
