TODAY -

The premature bloom

Somingam Chamroy *

I was standing on a terrace of medium high building, watching the beautiful scenery with a view of the highlanders along with the rhythmic flow of melodious song; that's plugged intomy ear. As the music goes amidst and as I could hear the song chanting amicably, "in today's World, boys and girls are blooming prematurely." A sudden Zeal rushed through all over my body and that delved into pensive thought instantly.

In fact, the inspiration which I got, so to say emanate metaphor from the song, however, immensely assisted me to scrutinize and illuminate regarding the embodiment of ignorance of the Tribal people. On the other hand, the embodiment which am implying here may not necessarily be about boys and girls. But which is implicit. Yet, contemporary to the civilization; the tribal people like us while in comparison with the other advance countries and their civilization.

Obviously, we are no doubt the descendant inheriting the so called technological age also in the information and experience age. Bit by bit changes brings transformation and now we say, "Yesterday, it was impossible. Today, it is possible." Today to your eyes, things glitter vigorously at the highest level. As we all know, Science and technology have made life simpler although the earth seemed growing smaller each day.

Indeed, distances have been shortened auspiciously. At the same time we are proud when we realised, being at the place where our fathers' would not have been even dreamt of; Friends are in our cell; shops, bank, and everything are in our hand. No doubt, we are living in the modernized world. But, owing to this point of view what could be your opinion if I ask, "are we far more cultured and efficient than our forefathers'?" to contemplate with the motives of originality. I can ascertain that, we are not at all far apart from the realm of the time of our father, whom we considered the naive, darker and uncivilized one.

According to my assumption, by this 21st century, our ordinary standard without the assistant from others might be sociologically, economically, politically, scientifically and psychologically at the stage of 17th to 18th century AD or may be even earlier conceptually, by the time when our ancestors were still on their journey toward the place where we are settling now, most of the western countries and north eastern countries and others would have had already in a state of being urban.

In 1275, the world first mechanical clock was invented whereas most of the tribal people living in north east India, their history (omitting the account of the years of early migration from north eastern countries.) could be traced back only up to 10th to 15th century. Between the period of 16th and 17th centuries their people have produced mechanical calculator, microscope, telescope, piano, flying shuttle, steamship or boat etc. but What do you think our standard would be by that time?… Obscure? The period between 18th to 19th centuries may be termed as the actual initial stage of modern technological age.

Steam locomotives, type writer, fountain pen, bicycle, machine gun, modern plastic, modern matches, photograph, diesel and petrol engine, etc. were emerged on those years back. On the other hand we were remained naked even to the time of the British arrival. By the dawn of 20th century, Wright Brother introduced the aviation machine but we were starting to learn the A B C. during the II World War, our people were still wondering the fighter jet as a giant dragonfly.

Concerning electronics, Renovation arises by replacing the mechanical into analogue electronics through the coming of the first computer ENIAC in 1940s. But contrastingly, in our places people who have just passed VIII to X class got the highest regard. The world started using sophisticated, analogue electronics from the fall of 1950s and to the period till 1970s which was called digital age. Of course, tribal literacy rate too must be rising up with time.

But assuredly, others have developed the things which the 21st century's tribal people would still find hard to comprehend it? See the differences between them? Let us suppose, the tribal people or other backward classes people would be completely deserted and deprived by the all higher, advanced either develop or developing agencies or briefly by the world; cut entirely the ally bonds under stringent obligatory terms; no more protection, no more supplementation, no more cares.

Besides, all the amenities possesses would also be retrieved by the respective machinery and electronics companies; defunct every internet server and connection; communication, transportation, etc. etc.' if so happened. Imagine what the imbroglios would be? What would be our standard and condition after the tragedy?

To my opinion firstly, we might felt vulnerable as if we are in the forefather's generation. But I hope it is no wrong for me to imply that we are still in their generation. Which means we are not much going ahead despite the influences we are getting and flourishing with from the other advanced countries. Secondly, we might be fervently pleading for the legislate adulteration with abject aghast.

But astonishingly, these backward class (we the tribal) people started, trying to equate with the developed culture by the fall of information age sincefrom the late 1970s. Isn't awful? In fact, these blunders have brought vivid stagnation on the process ofthe perspective of thetribal conventional developmental scheme.

How could a child be considered as normal if he/she borne prematurely? When have we ever appreciated and regarded unripe paddy grains to be harvested? Have you ever seen a plant bearing flowers before its pollination? Could you name any juveniles succeeding his/her appeared IAS examination before first learning?

From the above given verdicts, what possibilities could you find other than its stupidity judgement? But it's no fun for us to argue that we the tribal peoples are in such context; of stigmatized stupidity condition. The tribal, with the coming of the 21st century is like, "delivering a baby child before the completion of its full months."

What goodness would it bring to us! And we claimed ourselves a civilized one. So sad! This is what we called "The Premature Bloom" oh what have we produced, what contribution did we make on the evolution of The World's Information Technological age? We have been a constant protégé, a copier, a follower. Now it is experience age, and we are here.

Do we really deserve to be in this generation when we are like a crazy cat waiting for Milk? Why haughty? They have experienced our today's life when they were in the 17th to 19th century. Why should we always compare theirs and complains when we couldn't? We deeply forlorn, discussing this matter as we had already fallen prematurely.

"If we were not affected by their advance culture we might be thinking something new and may be developing new things." Today, their technology has blinded us, manipulating our instinct skills and talents. We've become addicted. We are no longer better than an abnormal person.

To the tribal youngster, "this is our chance to refine our originality. Why should we depend on others forever? Let us rejuvenate our obsessed mind set rather we ceased imitating others lavished and developed cultures. Let us start envisaging with pristine thought by stealing at least an hourfrom the times of gadgets."

Oh tribal people, "let us never be proud for whatsoever miles we have taken, we have still miles and miles to be taken so as to complement with others. We have chosen the rays and not the source of the light."
