The Survival Mound
Soubam Tomba Luwang *
From a thick foliage tree
a leaf, wilted of its stalk,
fell on the ground
overgrown with couch grass.
The couch grass did not want
to greet the dead leaf.
Mother earth was a survival mound;
when this survival mound
was transforming into
a death mound
The couch grass got upset:
How long to live like this
on the soil of the death mound.
Depressed, it looked up
at the thick foliage tree.
Issh! Such a myriad number!
Leaves with stalk wilted
all waiting for falling!
The tree did not want
to retain them, the incapable leaves
the soil too were at odds with them aggrieving
the death would overweigh on it.
But the half dying leaves
were smiling willfully
in the hope
they would live
a new birth
on the survival mound.
