The Silent Threat
Soffy Nongmeikapam *
'What if I don't make it?'
I asked.
Then,
Fear becomes my gravity.
My mind clouds
Vague visions of victory.
Somewhere I heard:
To appreciate success,
You must test failure.
"How will you do it?"
This I call
Constructive criticism
Meant to fortify.
But,
Fear is the silent threat
Lurking in my heart.
It robs my cheer,
Smiling with glee.
Then,
I was drowning
In an ocean of confusion
Until my weakening grasp
Reach out for a lifeboat
When
Well-meaning friends said:
"You can make it,
We have faith."
Then,
I engaged myself in a search
For elusive confidence;
A lingering want for a vision
That once seemed so clear.
My weaken spirit still clings
Faintly to hope,
Hoping
One day or the other,
I would land swiftly
Upon my land of dreams.
