The Diary of the World
Jagadish Brajabacy *
The world is a problem child of God
Replete with lots of social ills
Raping, killing abducting and looting
That eat into the social fabric
Rapists wander around the streets
And rape lots of defencless girls
Who cry in the wilderness
With no one coming to their rescue
The strong beat the weak black and blue
Till the latter perish and are looted
Then the outlaws smile and flee the spot
To enact the same scene in other spots
In the twenty-first century
We see the practice: "The might is right"
During the broad day light in a town
That looks like a wild life habitat
Lo! An outbreak of a gunfire
In a busy crowded market
Between some hardened criminals
Putting civilians to death
Oh! Bombs are planted elsewhere
Souls flee from explosions in panic
With their eyes wild with terror
Like a herd of stampeding horses
Like a guest coming from afar
A stranger drops in on a host
And makes a demand for money
While the poor host stands bewildered
A system of ballistic missiles
Spreads over the world like dragons
Breathing out devasting fires
To annihilate the whole world
Unlimited and countless is
The number of crimes that take place
During the span of a single day
That becomes the diary of the world.
