The Antique Girl
- A Poem -
Neha Thangjam *
She's incredibly beautiful, the kind of woman you will hold on to for her beauty but she is stronger than her beauty, and kinder than her feminism and more nurturing than her allure,
A great mother but the best grandmother,
But life isn't compassionate enough to her
She has learned and seen that the
greatest grief are caused by the ones who are closest to her and by the bitter battles of wants and jealousy
She says life is as much of a calamity as the death kiss
She's passionate, driven, obsessed with all the things, always curious about cooking process, ingredients, a self-described bon viveur and who laughs with all her heart
But life constantly gives her insurmountable obstacles
She has given more than she could ever give, more than she has to her brood but all she gets now from them is their apathetic looks
She says even after giving so much still she isn't hollow and she endures giving more
She has array of attires, a box of jewels, fortunes, houses, valuable, caskets, gardens, her favourite flowers
a collection of a life time, many handpicked moments
But age has lapsed everything
Nor She needs them any longer
She remains curled up in bed, left out, no one to talk to, cold, no company, wanting to speak a word or two to anyone who will lend her an ear, she's tired , in pain and crying because she has been strong for so long
while her brood walk pass her without a thought, laughing, decorated
It was a flash she never show it coming
Its heart breaking that her brood still criticise her harshly of her poor judgement and misconception and insufficient knowledge of the old days
They believe the grey haired senile mother of theirs is facing her karma
The irony is if they believe the existence of Karma, what is the Karma they are indulging in to the aged mother.
In all their judgements what about the person they have become?
Pity their judgement and the senior self they would have to faced in the time to come hereafter
In the old lady there still exist a soul, the soul that still craves for happiness, beauty, love and most importantly the love from her children who are green and shining now
Because after all she is a Girl but more beautiful, skilled one, more worthy , pleasing-
an antique Girl!
And you know how girls are they are strong and equally fragile,
falls in love at a moment and gets hurt easily too
Yes shes 65 and she needs you more now!
Here I'm Grieving and trying to understand the people that is rapidly losing its humanity
But i wont give up yet for in a year or two i'll b with her and today's worries will be in a forgotten land
I might have to give up her marvellous company for the moment for something she wanted her whole life-
to see me accomplished and stand for her
She is the type of magic I haven't seen in any other girl
