Sweet was the scent of love
Surendranath Sharma Laimayum *
Nameless are we as strangers now,
Like we had never known,
The road I take is road you spurn,
Like magnet's sulking estranged ends.
Like thirsting farers in desert's wild,
Anxious to find an oasis to rest,
Our eyes then had craved to spy,
Battling dreary frosty lulls.
Wither blew those fragrant winds
Of loaded smiles and missing beats;
Blissful lanes on serene streets,
That swells of love would inundate.
Weathered warmth and varying wants,
Fading faith and changing hearts,
Leap of desire whose spur's denied,
Robbed the charm love had stirred.
Strange is the trait of love,
Gale of bliss onset brings,
Plaintive void waning leaves,
Like joyous dreams waking would oust.
Sweet was the scent of love,
Our hearts once possessed;
Like a blossom forgotten,
Lay beneath sepulchre's weight.
