“Soar High Music Festival” - a tribute concert is being organised to pay tribute to the Rock Musicians of Manipur who have now left for heavenly abode.
The concert will be held on the 29th of December 2007, at Nagampal Kangjabi Lampak, it will start at 10 AM in the morning, and the entry is FREE.
Being organised by ‘Kshetrimayum Abungcha Memorial Trust’, this tribute concert will also mark the selection of four bands from among the bands that will be performing.
Six more bands will be selected from “Wake Up, Reach Out”, a rock contest that will be held on 5th January ‘08 at Thau Ground, Imphal (originally it was scheduled for 19th Dec ’07, but postponed due to the Pourabi bomb blast).
Altogether, the selected ten bands will go for an extensive tour of Manipur and the North East. “A compilation album of original tracks of the selected bands will also be released”, said Momocha Laishram, Director of Folk Art and Cultural Guild (FACG), over the phone from Imphal.

PS: “Soar High”? These two words sound familiar? Yeah, it’s the song “Soar High” from Post Mark’s thrash metal album “Stamp on you”, released sometime in late 80’s. Perhaps it’s the first album by a Manipuri band, and has still been the one and only album so far. 20 years have gone by; it’s time we write more originals.
