KOUBRU is an amateur rock band assembled/ formed in early 2013 by a handful of like-minded music enthusiasts based in Bangalore. The name of the band has been derived from the sacred mountain "Koubru" or "Koubru Ching" located in Kangleipak. The members of the band all hail from the state of Manipur in NE India.

The band has a tremendous inclination towards the old school rock / heavy metal music of the 70's and 80's era. It is also a great concern of the band to preserve this Genre of music which is eventually fading away & becoming extinct.

Description

The band basically plays cover of old school classic Rock as well as Heavy Metal music apart from playing their self-composed songs. Each of the members of the band had been a part of some other band or individual artist in the past.

The band members have been influenced in their early lives by the bands like Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Def Leppard, Poison, Deep Purple, Guns N Roses, Judas Priest, Twisted Sisters, Skid Row, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth and so on.

Brief History

The intention of forming the band was mainly for recreational purpose. Music is the best form of relaxation after a day's hard and stressful work. The frontman of the band is HAKS. His first influence of western music was when he was in a boarding school in Gangtok in the mid 80’s. He had started performing at various concerts in Pune in the mid 90’s along with musicians assembled temporarily then. He had always fancied about forming a steady Rock band since his college days back in the 90’s but that could never be materialized until lately. As the saying goes…”Better Late Than Never”. The name of the band could have been some other fancy name but it was thought that the name “KOUBRU” is unique and would always portray the origin of the band and its legacy.

The first line-up of KOUBRU comprised of Haks (Vocals), Leelanda (Lead Guitar), Bjorn (Guitar), Divesh (Bass) and Somen (Drums). Less than a year since the formation of the band, three members of the band drifted away one after the other due to personal reason and other obligation. This is a common phenomenon with many famous bands around the world as well. After much struggle of searching for talented musicians especially hailing from the same region based in Bangalore, the exited members have been substituted by Mistan (Lead Guitar), Chinglen aka Bono (Guitar) and Vikky (Bass) respectively, of course with the help of their Well Wishers. Lately the band is fully revamped to rock again…even louder!

Most of the band members are IT professionals working in MNCs @ Bengaluru.
