Princess of joy
Surendranath Sharma Laimayum *
What scent it is in the breeze
That casts such trancing freeze;
Who this marvel's mistress be,
I faint know my own being.
Glorious joy intoxicating,
In nearness rousing;
Rapture celestial so refined,
O Princess of joy divine!
Yearn I in anxious flush,
While I linger in nervous blush,
Only to steal those silly thrills
Of precious nothings that slip her lips.
What wine it is so profound
That I am like slave so bound?
Tell me, angel, your heart's ploy,
I am drunk with your mystique glow.
Lustrous locks plot to hide
Smile that tames the wildest heart;
Those eyes that shame Kohinoor,
There my heart is firmly moored.
Bouncing in her life's sunshine,
Freely does she lend her shine,
Like she would at her foy,
Kindling my heart with sparks of joy.
Gracious princess temple of mirth,
Princess word is short of worth,
Speech is yet to find a word,
Piquant fragrance of southerly wind.
Sings my heart in uncloying praise,
The winds in delight toss my phrase,
Spritely goddess in earthly guise,
Her twinkling memory I still prize.
