Inaugural Function of the Peace Builder Across the World Exhibitions

In the Inaugural function of the Peace Builders across the world exhibitions which started today at the All Saints Halls, Shillong - Dr Leban Serto, the co-ordinator of the Peace Studies welcomed all the participants and also gave a brief history of the Peace Count on tours Exhibition of Peace builders across the world.
Altogether there are 12 main posters from the 30 conflict storied documented by the German Journalist and researchers of the Tuebingen Institute of Peace Education, Germany.
The Exhibition is about stories of the local inititiatives and ordinary peoples working and making a difference for peace in the conflict ridden areas. Their stories will inspire other ordinary peace to make a difference and also know that Peace is possible through non – violent ways and means.
A formal introduction of the guests for the function was made by the Rev Edwin Kharkongor, Registrar of the Martin Luther Christian University. The Chief Guest shared some of his experiences of his visit to Rwanda after the genocide and it left a lasting impression on the gruesome killing that took place.
He also said that the exhibition has come at the right time for teaching and educating for a culture of peace in Shillong and beyond. After the inauguration of the Exhibition, he also released the audio CD on Spell Peace, songs on peace by various artists from the North East India. Daniel Engty the main artist was also personally presence during the release.
The Vice Chancellor Dr. G C Kharkongor , in his closing remark mentioned about the youth working for peace is an encouraging step and that the University is looking towards working for the communities. It is not only about studies and research, but also to be personally involved and mitigate the problems existing in the societies today.
The workshop is being jointly organised by the Peace Studies Department of Martin Luther Christian University, Henry Martin Institute and
INSAF ( Indian Social Action Forum) . The exhibition will be continue to be held on the 23rd November at the All Saints Hall , Shillong from 10 : 00 am till 4:00 pm.
