TODAY -
Have you seen the Cacti
N Noren *
The shepherd merrily plays his flute
And the flock bleats
Echoing through the rocky expanse ;
In the breeze the wanton hair of the village damsel
And her carefree frock frolick !
The sun silhouettes the long caravan
Oh gypsies of the shifting sands ,
Life is but a journey unending !
The mystic under the palm shade
Drunk to his heart's desire
Dreams but of the ideals of love ......
The snake coils in the apple tree
Its tongue forked
Waiting for Eve......
Alas the dye is cast !
The flowers are still a blooming
On the juicy cacti
Their spikes jealously awake to an unwelcome guest !
Oh elusive love. ......
