Depigmentation (A new hope for vitiligo patients)

I had vitiligo for more than 15yrs. There were only 7 spots, one in the neck and the others in both legs of small sizes. They have been cured by taking homeopathy treatment during the initial stages but after a period of 6-7 months those white spots starts again at the same place but this time the same treatment couldn’t bring even 5% of pigment.

I have tried different repigmentation treatment but none of the treatment has made a single spot leave my skin. During childhood, I was careless and I did never put any efforts on my own to take the medication in time. My mom and sis always remind me to take the medicines and apply the cream in time.

Sometimes they become anxious that I didn’t take care of myself and later on explained me to understand that most of the people hate these white patches in my body and they do not like me to play with their children’s. I felt very disturbed when I saw new spots have been started coming out at different place.

By the time, I realized my mistake when I see the spots has been increased in sizes too I hate myself and feel uncomfortable in meeting with anyone including close friends and relatives. I try hard to hide my vitiligo in every possible way so that people do not get noticed about it but it becomes a problem when the spot started in my finger tips. People started noticing about my vitiligo, they started rejecting me; most of them silently withdraw from me.

Going to school was become a stress in my life as my classmate didn’t like me to sit with them in a bench and even they left me alone at lunch break. Some, of my friends asked me to have my lunch alone till my vitiligo is cured. They were scared by the white spots in my finger tips and my vitiligo would harm them. They will also have vitiligo if they sit and eat with me.

Even they put my school bag far from the bench where they sat in group. IF I KNOW VITILIGO IS NOT CONTAGIOUS AT THAT TIME AND WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF IT, then I might have explained to them and let them understand that it is an unpredictable disease that do not harm in sitting/sleeping together, eating, exchange of clothes, etc. I would have never felt so alone in those school days.

It was really difficult for me to meet with any friends or people and sometimes close friends, relatives or strangers make extremely hurtful and humiliating comments knowingly or unknowingly. These can’t be understood by a person who didn’t have a vitiligo.

Sometimes, I sit and cry thinking that things would really change my life if it starts appearing in face and it would be tough for me to live in this world as the white patches has been keep on destroying my childhood days / school life / highschool life etc because of lack of understanding and knowledge about the vitiligo disease.

No one would ever feel or understand how hard it was for me struggle to live positively in the midst of trails, challenges & difficulties.

But now, I would like to let everyone know that I was among the one who had struggled for 20 years to get the white patches repigment again but none of the repigmentation treatment got any results.

In short, most of the doctors didn’t advised for depigmentation and they always keeps on suggesting for repigmentation method, they do not like us to prescribe any medication for depigmentation even after telling the whole story of repigmentation treatment that didn't work for me. But now, I have completed the depigmentation process, it took 16 months to complete the whole body and now I am happy with the results and I do not have any regrets in life.
