A visit to TNAI, Manipur State Branch (June 15th to 16th, 2018)

Merrily, merrily May 2018 finished with calm and pleasance. May is the month where every woman marks two important observations emotionally that is Mothers Day and Nurses Day, though the Mothers Day is observed in all gender in all age group around the globe. But women celebrate emotionally on these two celebrations, one is Nurses Day which is mainly observed by the women, since Nursing profession is female dominant profession and second one is Mothers Day.

Women are very much attached to their mothers and they observe Mothers Day in a very special way (own opinion). Last May that is 2017 I was attending a farewell programme in the newly constructed Examination Hall, RIMS. It was a rainy afternoon where Dr. Randhoni Devi, a well known gynaecologist who served for more than 30 years in RIMS with some of the Nursing Staff’s farewell party was to be held just a day before their retirement from the Institute.

In that rainy afternoon on the other side of the Examination Hall, RIMS that is at Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, both a mother and her daughter who was pregnant for 8 months was killed.

Dr. Randhoni Devi who needs no introduction is not only a successful gynaecologist but also a Doctor who treats the patient empathetically with love, care and understanding. She gives hope to the hopeless couples. Give free treatment to the needy one who has no penny to buy medicines.

She was a real light to the darkness and never get tired while delivering patient care to the needy. She was boon to those couples who didn’t have child in their married life. She was very much close to the Nursing communities and her association with the Nurses was remarkable.

Still she has been continuing her association with the Trained Nurses Association of India, Manipur State Branch. She has been extending her countless help towards the Nursing community while conducting health camps and awareness health programmes.

The Secretary General of Trained Nurses Association of India, Mrs. Evelyn P. Kannon and other two members of the association arrived at Imphal on 15th Jun 2018 and the team was received by the members of Trained Nurses Association India, Manipur State Branch Office at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai , Imphal.

The team examined the audited statement for the year 2017 -2018 and expressed their happiness by looking at the works done by the present office bearers and further encouraged to finish the construction of the present Office with the help of all the members of Trained Nurse Association India, Manipur State Branch.

In the afternoon, the team and the host team visited the Office of the Director, Health, Govt. of Manipur and they met Dr. Shyamsundar, Additional Director of Health, Govt. of Manipur and discussed the present working condition and the salary structure of the Nurses working under the National Health Mission in the state and also the overall improvement in the working condition and the salary of the Nurses in the private sector.

And later, the team also visited the Manipur Nursing Councils Office and discussed the stagnated number of TNAI life members, though the state had got more than 15 thousand licensed Nurses. The number of TNAI life members in the state is only 2020. In this regard, the Secretary General stressed to increase the number of TNAI life members in the state with the help of TNAI State Branch and Manipur Nursing Council. And the team also discussed the issues related with the appointment of present Registrar, Manipur Nursing council.

On the second day the visiting team and all the Nurses of Manipur had a felicitation programme cum general body meeting in the Lecture Theatre Complex, RIMS. In her speech, the Secretary General expressed happiness to see the large number of Nurses gathering in such small state.

She was delighted to see the achiever of gold medal award on POWERLIFTING INDIA championship held on 16th to 18th March 2028 in Ranchi by a Nurse from the state. She saluted to the present Govt. for providing a post to Mrs S Romita Devi one who had crossed the age for new recruitment in the Govt sector.

She also expressed happiness towards the Manipur State Branch for having its own land and the building though the construction is not yet completed. In this regard, the Secretary General had shown the philanthropic donation towards the completion of the construction.

Looking at her vibrant leading and love towards the Nursing profession, many Nurses who came from various sectors also donated generously towards the TNAI, Manipur Branch. It was just a beginning. Now Manipur State Branch is continuously getting donation from the Nurses as well as non Nurses who love Nursing profession. With the help of all the Nurses in the state we would be able to complete the construction of the building TNAI, Manipur State Branch Office at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai.

At present, the Manipur State Branch has taken up responsibilities of the present office bearer under the guidance of the President and the Secretary’s constant tireless support. The present executive members’ tenure will be expiring in December 2018 and the new Election of the Office Bearer will be done in December 2018 itself. One good news is that the Nurses National Biennial Conference will be held in Goa from 11 to16 December 2018.

In this regard, all the Nurses need to have smart life membership card instead of the old membership card. Because the smart card holder TNAI life members are eligible for casting the election both in the TNAI, Head Qtrs. or State Branch election.

Non TNAI life member of the Trained Nurses Association of India are also required to do new registration for strengthening of the association.
