REJUVENATE THE M U |
Once and for all, a thorough overhauling of the Manipur University is essential. In an age where knowledge has come to, be equated with power more than ever before, the state cannot have its knowledge bloodstream continually poisoned by the decay in what may be rightfully called the apex institution of all higher learnings in the state. The Manipur University Teachers' Association, MUTA, and before them the various associations and unions existing within the university's ambit, have been literally taking turns to paralyze the functioning of this priceless institution, which ought to be serving as the ever abundant fountain of elixir for the state's health and vitality. The MUTA has called for either the resignation, if not the removal of the MU Vice Chancellor, Prof. H Tombi Singh, on the charge that he has been responsible for the deterioration of the academic standard of the university. As. per our information, they have called for a probe to be instituted by the Chancellor of the MU, the Governor, Ved Marwah, into the alleged activities or the lack of it, of the Vice Chancellor, that are supposed to have ruined the university. The MUTA has also apparently furnished the Chancellor, a list of specific charges against the Vice Chancellor to be probed. Although we are certain we can fairly accurately guess the list, from the allegations that have been flying freely around in the university circles, we will not presume anything for the moment. We do hope however, that it contains not just scape-goating material but reflects some serious and honest self-introspection as well.
