Peace And Development |

The extremist organizations operating in the state have declared that they will not collect any kind of fee from the general public. This is a good gesture shown to the general public. Manipur today is reeling amidst chaos and confusion. The return to peace will ease all these ills affecting the society. Peace should be our next target. Is our Govt seriously considering of holding peace talk with other organizations operating in the state? The Chief Minister has also shown a good gesture to the UG elements when he declared that he would relinquish the post he is holding in the same pattern of Lalthanhawla sacrificing his post for Laldenga. The question now is whether there will be any taker of his declaration. Or should we call it putting the cart before the horse. Earlier speaking at a function former Chief Minister Rishang expressed his views that the state Govt should send feelers to the UG elements for holding peace talk. So far as our knowledge is concerned the state Govt is not doing anything to bring the UG elements to the negotiating table. If the Govt were really thinking of bringing the youths to the national mainstream it would have thought of declaring general amnesty to those working underground. Only political solution will ensure lasting and permanent peace to the state. Keeping all these things in mind the Govt has to act sensibly. The state police are not in a position to take on the might of the extremists operating in the state. A handful of police commandos cannot be expected to do all these uphill tasks of cleansing the state of these elements. They even cannot move out. If they move it is at the town areas only. We cannot expect the state police to carry out all these tasks of fighting against the extremists, which are purely the work of the security forces. Nevertheless security forces are not deployed in the state. The existing few too cannot be stretched further as they are preoccupied with carrying out ROP duties on the national highways. If the state Govt is seriously considering of bringing the UG elements back to the negotiating table it should do the ground work and involve Union Govt to find lasting solution to the insurgency related issue. Manipur is now in turmoil. Nothing can be done. Even the developmental activities as stated by the Chief Minister are banned by UG elements at the remote areas. Where is Manipur heading? Enough is enough. Let us see how peace ensures development in the state.
