Concerned with suffering of common people in Manipur - NESO

The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), comprising of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) representing eight major students’ movements of the seven states of the North East Region had an Emergency Meeting today the 24th Jan, 2017 at Guwahati with regard to the deteriorating situation in Manipur vis a vis the creation of seven new districts resulting in the imposition of economic blockade since 1st November, 2016.
In the meeting besides the other leaders, leaders of AMSU and NSF had deliberated on the issue and the house unanimously resolved the followings after a thorough discussion :
1) NESO is seriously concerned with the suffering of the common people due to the prevailing situation in Manipur.
2) The Government of India should not shirk of its responsibility and NESO demands that the Government of India should intervene and take the initiative to solve the issue and to bring all the parties involved to the negotiating table so that the issue can be resolved amicably.
3) In view of this, NESO will meet the Union Home Minister, Government of India and also the Minister of State for Home, Government of India to imprest upon them to resolve this issue at the earliest.
4) The meeting also reiterates its opposition to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment ) Bill, 2016 which aims to recognize all Hindu Bangladeshis as Indian Citizens. The Government of India should know and understand that the North East is not a dumping ground of illegal migrants whoever they may be either Hindus or Muslims. The North Eastern Region will not take any burden of illegal foreigner who came after 1971 as per Assam Accord.
