60-hours General Strike in all the Hill Districts from 7th to 10th December 2010
- CoPTAM -
2nd December, 2010
The issue of Overlapping Census among others has exposed a series of policies pursued by the state government to exploit the land and rights of ribals in Manipur. Overlapping Census is a result of revenue collection in some parts of Hill Districts whose land records are maintain by the valley districts giving rise to Overlapping of district boundaries i.e distorting the original boundaries.
While the CoPTAM is demanding for transfer of land records and restoration of original district boundaries, the isuue of proposed Jiribal District affecting some parts of Churachandpur and Tamenglong Districts and the plan to imposed Urbanisation in Moreh against the interest of majority local tribals have come to light again and immediately followed by random deduction of tribal population to 17% in the current Census Operation which is never experince before and never practice in other parts of the Country.
Even now the state government is planing to establish IRB/CDO post near Vangai and rehabilitate KCP(Lallumba) faction at Leikun in Chandel district to be attached with 8th MR which are all against the interest of the indigenous tribals.
In view of the above mentioned facts and unabated grievances of tribals, the CoPTAM is compelled to call 60-hours General Strike in all the Hill Districts from 5PM of 7th December 2010 to 5AM of 10th December 2010 against the exploitation and second class citizen treatment on tribals in all aspects by the state government.
Compromising our ancestral land and rights is tantamount to compromising our people and our future. So far the CoPTAM regards state integrity but proclamation of state integrity without moral integrity of the people is meaningless.
The CoPTAM is demanding justice and respect in regards to our land and rights and not at all on communal line. As such all the non-tribals Organisations/NGOs and individuals are hereby appealed to understand our grievances as a fellow citizen of Manipur and not to be misled and communalise our struggle.
The CoPTAM rather expect support and co-operation from all sections of peace and justice loving societies and individuals of Manipur to give justice and respect a chance to reign over every citizens of Manipur.
