New Eastern Army Commander Visits State

Lieutenant General Bikram Singh, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM General Officer Commanding in Chief of Eastern Command after taking over the charge on 01 Apr 2010 is visiting the region. The General is highly decorated, thorough professional and experienced in handling various different situations during peace and conflict. He arrived at Dimapur on 19 Apr 2010 on his first visit to the region. He is accompanied by his wife who is the President of Regional Family Welfare Organisation of Eastern Command.
The GOC-in-C was received by Lt Gen N K Singh, AVSM, VSM GOC 3 Corps. Visiting dignitaries were given traditional Naga welcome at Rangapahar.
The General was briefed on the overall security situation in the region. The General held detailed discussions relating to security situation in the North East and lauded the efforts of troops towards bringing normalcy and contributing towards development of the region through ‘Op Sadbhavana’ and ‘Samaritan’. He urged every one to rededicate themselves and be with the local populace of the region in every possible way. He also stressed upon the need to keep abreast with the changing technology in view of modernization of Armed Forces. He further stressed on the need to have a humane approach to various situations.
Regional President of Family Welfare Organisation of Eastern Command interacted with the families at Rangapahar to know about welfare schemes for the families and Children. She encouraged ladies to utilize facilities of vocational training centre to learn traits that would help them in contributing towards better quality of life of their families.
