Rs.3 lakh for gold medalists in National Games

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has announced to increase the cash incentives given to state players who make new games records and who win gold medals in National Games to Rs.5 lakh and Rs.3 lakh respectively.
The announcement was made today by the CM during the felicitation function of state players, who participated in the 34th National Games.
The function was held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Speaking as chief guest of the function organised by the Department of YAS, Ibobi lauded the power packed performances of the state players in the recently concluded National Games.
Acknowledging their performances and dedication in the field of sports, the state cabinet has decided to increase the amount of cash incentives given to outstanding players.
Cash incentive given to record creators has been increased to Rs.5 lakh from Rs.1.50 lakh.
Gold medalists will be given Rs.3 lakh instead of Rs.1 lakh.
Incentives to silver and bronze medalists have also been increased to Rs.2 lakh and Rs.1 lakh from the earlier Rs.50,000 and Rs.20,000 respectively.
Gold medalists in team events will be given Rs.1 lakh each, Rs.50,000 for silver medalists and Rs.30,000 for bronze medalists.
Incentives for coaches will also be increased, the CM said.
Ibobi said the state government will be opening a Medical Aid Centre inside the complex to provide first aid to players.
Acknowledging the sports spirit of the people of the state, centre had approved to construct a sports academy in the state of which construction work is underway.
He said, players from Kerala and other states used top quality equipment in canoeing and kayaking events but state players with outdated equipment outshone them and won medals.
Ibobi lauded that state players outshone all others in the 34th National Games with 118 medals.
He urged them to strive more and to bring fame to the state in the international arena.
Chairman, Manipur Planning Board, Bijoy Koijam expressed his pleasure of Manipur's excellent performance in the National Games.
YAS Minister N Biren presided over the function.
Agriculture Minister N Loken, MLA Th Shyamkumar and MLA Dr Kh Ratan also attended the function as guests of honour.
The felicitated state players were presented with gifts.
