AIM make it right in Shirui Cup shoot-out

Keeping its calm in the penalty shoot-out AIM, Khabam carved out a 4-3 victory over NEROCA, Sangakpham to wrest the title of the 28th Shirui Lily Cup National Level Football Tournament at TNL ground here today.
With the keenly contested clash ending in a goalless draw, tie-breaker was applied during which L Gouro, Rajesh, S Herojit and Naoton found the mark while Ngouba's shot was saved by the rival custodian.
For NEROCA, the first attempt by N Sushil flew over the crosspiece and I Shanta's shot grazed the bar thereby rendering successes of Ng Tomarjit, Mahesh Rai and M Ashok to mere formalities.
The champions collected Rs 75,000 and the trophy with the runners-up having to content with Rs 50,000.Semifinalists, EFC (Kohima) and TRUGPU were awarded Rs 20,000 each.
AIM duo Naoton and L Gouro respectively bagged the best scorer and man of the tournament awards with the best goalkeeper title going to M Raj of NEROCA.
Azo of EFC and I Shanta of NEROCA were respectively adjudged the best mid-fielder and best defender while Lekini of Nangkiew Irat Sports Club, Shillong was honoured with the best coach title.
Meanwhile, L Yaima was declared as the tournament's best referee.
closing ceremony of the tournament organised by Ukhrul district Sports Association was attended by Principal Secretary (Works) Ram Muivah and VVD Ukhrul Founder Ashok Y Tipnis as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively while Shirui Lily cup donor IAS (Retd) W Shaiza graced the occasion as special guest.
In all 14 teams competed in the tournament.
