KS Peter crowned champion of Senapati wrestling meet

Imphal, December 10 2011:
KS Peter of Lakhamai village under Senapati district has clinched the title of 5th Open Wrestling Championship which concluded today at Senapati ground.
The championship, which commenced from December 6 was hosted by Taphou Phyamai village under the aegis of Senapati District Wrestling Association.
Peter defeated Kho Sebastian of Saranamei in straight sets to claim the top honour, carrying a trophy, medal and Rs 50,000 booty.
runner-up Sebastian was awarded Rs 30,000 while third position winner H John of Saranamei pocketed Rs 30,000 and fourth position winner Painii Yunii, also from Saranamei received Rs 20,000 .
Earlier in the semifinal rounds, Peter overcame Painii and Sebastian defeated H John.
The championship participated by a total of 21 wrestlers from different villages of Senapati district witnessed maximum number of seven competitors from Saranamei.
The competition was held on a combination of both indigenous and conventional style of wrestling with the condition that the wrestler who flips or pins his rival on the back twice emerge as the winner.
The closing ceremony was held with SDC, senapati PP Ronald as the chief guest.
All the wrestlers who reached the quarter final stage were awarded Rs 5000 each along with medals and citation.
