Sarita, Waheeda win Police meet golds

Imphal, August 07 2009: Representing India at the 13th World Police and Fire (services) Games being held in Canada's British Columbia, Manipur's L Sarita Devi bagged a gold medal in boxing event as another State native Waheeda Rahman made her mark in the international level competition winning four medals including a gold in athletics.

According to information recieved here, Waheeda raced to glory in the gruelling women's 3000 metre steeple-chase competition and doubled her tally bagging the 1500 metre silver medal.

Currently with the CRPF, Waheeda was also a member of the Indian quartet that secured silver medals in 4x100 and 4x400 metre races.

On the otherhand, Inspector of manipur Police and multiple world women's boxing championship medal winner L sarita struck gold at the Canada event after overcoming the hosts' Web Halley in the 56 kg category.

The World Police Games began on july 30 and will conclude tomorrow.
