Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA), Keishamthong players grabbed 19 medals on the opening day of the 5th Governor's Taekwondo Cup Manipur 2009 that set up UTA for an unprecedented fifth title triumph.
The inaugural programme of the competition organised under the aegis of All Manipur Taekwondo Association was held at the Khuman Indoor stadium this afternoon with international player S Anita Chanu taking the oath on behalf of the participants.
Singjamei AC MLA and vice president of Manipur Olympic Association I Hemochandra and AMTA president Y Khemchand graced the occasion as the guest of honour and functional president respectively.
With overall team title of all the four previous competitions under their kitty, UTA players launched their title defense campaign with a haul of six gold, five silver and eight bronze medals on the first day today.
The day also saw SAI RC bag five gold and two bronze medals while CTI, Sagolband collected three of the yellow metal, four silver and five bronzes.
In all 454 players, including 214 females, from 28 AMTA units are taking part in the four-day competition.
