Imphal, August 08 2009: Ahead of the Independence Day celebration the 17 Assam Rifles of 10 sector organised a drawing competition for students at Ukhrul COB on august 6 on the theme 'Unity and peace for a stronger India', said a PRO IGAR (S) release today.

Apart from 48 students of Assam Rifles School (Somsai), Savio School, John Bosco, Maringmi Memorial School, Little Angels, Blesso Montessori and Sacred Heart participating in the drawing competition, members of social organisations were also preset on the occasion, the release added.

It is informed that student competitors of Blesso Montessori and Savio School respectively bagged the first and second positions.

Meanwhile, Commandant 12 Assam Rifles Col Rajeev Panwar attended a function jointly hosted by the villagers of Phange and Chassad villages on July 4 in connection with distribution of furniture, ration etc provided by the AR unit.

Sweets were also distributed to children of the villages on the occasion, the PRO added.
